Compère - the Coherence MediaRenderer

If you are looking only for an UPnP MediaRenderer, capable of playing media served by an UPnP MediaServer, you maybe should have a look here first.

Compère is a little side-by-side project born out of the frustration that none of the public available ControlPoints and MediaRenderers actually work 100% as expected and are therefore unsuitable to test, control and demonstrate the devices and services provided by Coherence.

And of course the wish to have some software on the Nokia N800 that enables it to truly act as a ControlPoint and controllable MediaRenderer.

It is written in Python using the Pygame SDL toolkit for the UI. And - needless to say - Coherence for all the UPnP stuff.

So far it is tested on Ubuntu Feisty and Maemo 3.2 (Bora).

Let's start with the obligatory screenshots - taken on my desktop (click them for a larger version):

The button arc you see on the right site only shows up when you move your finger or the mouse into a hotzone defined on the right edge of the screen.
The same does of course apply to the button arc on the left side in the next screenshot.

In the right button arc you can take actions on the current image shown.

• save it to a local UPnP MediaServer
• step one image back
• toggle between play and pause mode
• step one image forward
• mark an image as junk

The next screenshot shows the left button arc enabled, controlling the software itself.

• move up one menu level to select image display or audio playback mode (not implemented yet)
• scan and select an UPnP MediaServer (not implemented yet)
• quit the program
